Invisalign aligners work by using a series of clear aligners to gradually shift teeth into the desired location. Individuals will change their aligners every 7-14 days depending on complexity, and can expect to come into the office every 4-8 weeks for progress checks. Many times translucent attachments are placed on the teeth to aid in movements, however patients note their discretion in comparison to unsightly metal brackets. **A note on mail-order aligners. Although it may seem like an easy, affordable option, mail-order aligners (like Smile Direct or Candid)  are generally too good to be true. How clear aligners fit is imperative to treatment outcomes. Instead of using a highly accurate 3D scanner, mail-order aligners rely on an in-experienced patient taking a highly critical at-home impression. There is a lot of room for error! To correct crowded teeth, a dentist may need to create space for teeth to move past one another. If this is required, it has to be done in a dental office by a dentist. In addition, clear aligners are not for everyone, it's important to remember they are a medical procedure. As medical procedures are generally not right for everyone, the same is true of clear aligners. Use of clear aligners also requires regular monitoring otherwise dental problems may be exacerbated. This ultimately could increase the cost of fixing a problem in the end.
